We try 14 brands of frozen chicken vaguits-our winners can surprise you
We try 14 brands of frozen chicken vailies that you will probably find in your local supermarket or online. To find the best, we tried each without knowing which brand was. Our winner is Pilgrim’s ultimate chicken vengeancePresent But we also crowned two runners -up.
There is a reason why so many children love chicken vengens: they are salty, crispy and the perfect vehicle for ketchup (or if you are Taylor Swift, Ketchup and “apparently ranch”). They are also easy to prepare: buy them frozen, and everything you need to do is to throw them in the oven or the air roast. Although chicken vending is often referred to the world of children, the truth is that most people, regardless of age, love a good chicken virtue, especially when it is good, is juicy and exceptionally tender. The question is: which brand is worth buying?
In order to find the best chicken vailies, our editors have tried 14 different brands, which you will probably find in the freezer of your local grocery store or online. We cooked every nugget according to package instructions and then tried them in a random order without knowing which one was. After we had wrapped ourselves through many, many nuggets, we tabulared the results and crowned an overall winner and two worthy candidates, where we would like to snack on.
** Unfortunately we could not obtain the 365 Whole Foods Market Chicken Nuggets. They were sold out everywhere. Make what you want!

The criteria
Great chicken vengeance should be meaty, delicate and hearty. Each nugget may not taste surprisingly like chicken – no cardboard, please! There should be just enough salt and spices such as peppers and onion powder to give the nuggets a deep taste, but not so much that it masked the taste of the chicken itself. The texture is just as important: chicken vengeance should be satisfactorily crispy on the outside, with a juicy and delicate interior.
Most of the chicken vengeance consist of ground chicken paste that are shaped, breaded and fried. Others consist of boneless, skinless chicken breast meat and, in bite-sized pieces, in contrast to a tiny chicken tender.
Overall winner
Pilgrim’s ultimate chicken
“These are pretty good – definitely processed, but pretty good,” wrote our editorial director. Danielwho also approved their texture. Likewise our senior editor, GeneviaveEnjoyed that every nugget was tender and yet crisp. The taste of these nuggets reminded our senior social media editor. Kellimade of fried chicken; She also found the texture “good” and took up the admission of MSG. Our Associate Visual Director, AmandaI thought the spice was “nice”, which was great praise from a self-proclaimed chicken virtue connoisseur. I was particularly impressed that the paning remained crispy even after the nuggets had been sitting for 30 minutes.
Second
Just just braided chicken bites
“Nice pieces!” Daniel wrote, who was a fan of his texture. Amanda found it properly crispy, but did not enjoy the taste so much. Geneviave I thought it was well seasoned, even though Kelli found these nuggets a bit salty. I enjoyed the slightly peppery taste and the beautifully tanned crust and rated this nugget as a top choice.
Kirkland slightly breaded chicken breast pieces
“This seems to be a real piece of chicken with extensive breadcrumbs,” wrote Daniel, who also praised his spices. Kelli enjoyed the “tasting bit” of the breading and the sweet and hearty flavors. Amanda appreciated the “acceptable preaning-to-chick ratio”, which preferred more paning than the other competitors: “Tastes like a chicken virtue!” Although these nuggets were a touch sweet for me, it liked that they were adequately bite -sized and chunky. Although Genevieve thought that this was a bit “too salty” and firm, she could see why others would enjoy.

Important snack bars and conclusion
Most chicken vengens are made of breast meat, which gives nuggets their familiar pale color and uniform texture. Others include rib meat – the slightly darker portion of the chest attached to the rib – which gives tenderness and a deeper taste.
Our winner, Pilgrims Ultimate Chicken Nuggets, contains rib meat that are processed into a paste, as well as six other competitors outside of our top three. In the meantime, our two second -placed people do not use rib meat. While rib meat can improve the tenderness, this alone is not enough to make a great chicken virtue: also the spice and breading matter. Our favorite chicken vengeance are breaded in wheat flour. Our winner uses enriched wheat flour, while our two second -placed people use a mixture of wheat flour, sugar, salt, peppers, spices and saxes (such as baking powder) to create a well -spiced crust. Baking powder too Promotes Browning. Wheat is the most common flour that is used for breading, although some brands rice flour, tapioka flour or chickpea flour replace that, according to our editors, can give the coating a remarkable sandy or granular quality.
Pilgrim’s is also the only brand that includes monosodium glutamate (MSG). The ingredient gives many dishes a hearty depth and is probably the reason why our editors find them satisfactorily heartily and Umami.
Overall, our three most important brands of the classic Nugget formula follow: wheat flour bread, uncomplicated spice with peppers and neutral oils.
Our test methodology
All taste tests are carried out with brands that are completely hidden and without discussion. Tasted tastes of samples in random order. For example, button A can taste a sample first, while buttons B tastes a sample first. This is intended to prevent the tiredness of the palate of a sample wrong. Tosters are asked to fill out tasting sheets and to evaluate the samples according to various criteria. All data are tabular and the results are calculated without editorial input to enable the most impartial presentation of the actual results.
