We try 28 muesli brands that you will probably find in your local supermarket or online. To find the best, we tried each without knowing which one was. Our winner is Tom’s perfect 10 classics, but we also crowned three runners -up.

How many of my colleagues I mean my mueslir consumption pretty seriously. On weekends, if I can fully commit myself to make a lot of homemade MuesliI look forward to inhaling the roasted, caramelized, nutty aroma while baking and then digging into a fresh, still warm bowl. If I float faster through my mueslir hiding place than I can do, I grab the things bought in the shop. The question is: which muesli is worth buying?

In order to find the best muesli bought in the shop, our editors have tried 28 different brands, which you will probably find in your local grocery store or online. We adhered to oat base granolas, which are seasoned with honey, maple and/or vanilla and which were marketed as original or classic. We allowed simple inclusions such as nuts and dried fruits. We poured them into bowls and then tried them in a random order without knowing which brand was. After we had cracked through 28 different granolas, we tabulared the results and crowned an overall winner and three worthy competitors, which we would like to eat at breakfast or on a ball.

The criteria

Large muesli should be crispy and hearty. It should have bite -sized pieces that are pleasantly crispy, but not hard or big enough to break your teeth. It should be roasted nicely, but not burned or sharp. Although a hint of sweetness is welcome, it shouldn’t glow and there should be just enough salt to round off it. Muesli bought in the store does not have to taste fresh, but it shouldn’t taste dusty or stale.

Toms perfect 10 classics

This muesli made in New York has completely won our editors. “This is an actual muesli that I would eat,” our editorial director, Danielwrote after he had bitten in a “beautiful fruity part”. GeneviaveOur senior editor loved the dried cherries and the balanced taste of the muesli. Most of our editors agreed that this muesli had the right amount of crunch and chewing. JessieOur visual editor enjoyed the “sticky” texture of the mueslias and would recommend fans of dried plums. I loved this muesli so much for his tough fruit clusters as well as for his salty sweetness-that I sneaked home after the taste test before someone else could claim it.

Everyone praised the texture of Michele’s original muesli. Genevieve enjoyed his “correspondingly large bite” and “good crunch”. Jessie found it “slightly cute, with a good amount of nuts”. Although some of our tasters thought that the sweetness of the muesli was one -dimensional, they estimated that it was not bloody. Daniel put a solution in simple words: “It needs salt.” (You too can add a pinch of salt to your muesli.)

KelliOur senior social editor was immediately clocked Natural Valley Muesli Because it tasted like a carbon copy of the oat -hone -müsli bar of the brand. Like Kelli, I was a big fan of these snacks in my middle school lunch box and enjoyed this muesli. Daniel appreciated the Graham Cracker – the similar taste of the muesli and said he would like to eat one or two boxes. Nevertheless, some of our editors, including Genevieve, kept the pieces too big and preferred a slightly relaxed texture.

Daniel was head towards heels for Early Bird Farmhand’s Choice Muesli. “This is a textbook good muesli,” he wrote. “Almost perfect, crisp, not damp, not huge clusters.” Our associated editorial director, Meganidentified this correctly as early, and called it its overall winner and praised its saltness, nuts, seeds and crunch. Geneviave also applauded his “satisfactorily crispy” texture and liked that “it would not break the teeth” and especially loved the beautifully roasted pecans. Some editors, including Jessie and I, thought that a touch was too salty, but agreed that it would go well with yogurt and fruit. AmandaOur Associate Visual Director enjoyed this, but wanted, but “it was clumpy instead of individual pieces”.

Jessica’s vanilla -Maple -müsli Was a top scorer and the entry with vanilla taste. Megan liked his “big pieces”, while Genevieve believed that the clusters could be crispier. The taste itself shared our editors. Some enjoyed the cinnamon and honey, while others found the vanilla and maple notes too artificially.

Important snack bars and conclusion

All granolas we tried have oats as the main ingredient and some sweeteners. Many also contained oil, nuts and/or seeds and warm spices. Some granolas contain preservatives such as Tocopherol, a form of vitamin E that is used to maintain freshness.

Most granolas we tried use sugar, brown sugar, maple syrup or honey as a sweetener. In some granolas, this sweetness pushed well and was compensated for with an appropriate amount of salt. In general, our editors preferred Granolas from brown sugar, which gave the cereal -caramel notes and a rich steps. Our winner, Toms perfect 10 classics, is sweetened with a combination of dark brown sugar, maple syrup and honey.

Our test methodology

All taste tests are carried out with brands that are completely hidden and without discussion. Tasted tastes of samples in random order. For example, button A can taste a sample first, while buttons B tastes a sample first. This is intended to prevent the tiredness of the palate of a sample wrong. Tosters are asked to fill out tasting sheets and to evaluate the samples according to various criteria. All data are tabular and the results are calculated without editorial input to enable the most impartial presentation of the actual results.
