We have 14 brands with beef-jerky debris that you will probably find in your local supermarket or online. To find the best, we tried each without knowing which brand was. Our winner is Jack on the left of original beef -JerkyPresent But we also crowned four runners -up.

Every time hunger comes to the beef back on a road trip, I am hidden in my glove compartment. It is an excellent snack for long trips and camping trips, but also one that I would like to eat every day, whether that is at my desk, a picnic or during a film. The question is: which brand is worth buying?

In order to find the very best beef, our editors have tried 14 different brands, which you will probably find in your local grocery store or online. In addition to traditional beef jing, we also belonged to Biltong, an air-dried, hardened meat with South African origins. We emptied every jerk in a bowl and then tried it in a random order without knowing which one was. After we had wrapped ourselves through many, many pieces of breath, we tabulared the results and crowned an overall winner and four worthy candidates, which we would be happy.

The criteria

Great beef -Jerky should not taste surprising like beef. Every piece should be well seasoned: smoky, pepper -like and hearty, with just enough sweetness to round off it. It should be nice and tough, but not cruel, and it shouldn’t be excessively soft, tender or wet. When our editorial director, Daniel, wrote passion in Slack: “There is nothing wrong with chewing beef for a while. In fact, the part of the pleasure of a true jerky lover is: to work the dried beef and slowly give in and publish over time.”

Although Jery is a comfortable snack, it shouldn’t be fast. Each piece should be robust and tough enough to make a whole bag impossible in 30 minutes. Soft jerky may be a petrol station, but real Jery fans know that it is not what good jerky should be.

Best jerk for petrol station lovers: 365 by Whole Foods Market beef Jerky

This Jery was an immediate lack of public for many of our tasters. “Sweet with a touch of smoke,” said Laila. Amanda also enjoyed his soft texture and noticed that she reminded her of a classic petrol station. Genevieve found it “not too sweet, not too salty, well balanced”, a goldillocks. In the meantime, Kelli enjoyed his balanced taste, but thought that it could not be too Jerky: “To be honest, I would not know that this was Jery, unless someone told me. This could easily be part of a beef court in a restaurant.” Daniel agreed and added that it was far too mushy to survive for a good jerking.

Best jerk for people who don’t like to chew: Country Archer Original beef Jery

If you are not in the mood, you will grab Country Archer original cow -jerky. “Only a light chew, no need to tear and gnaw,” remarked Kelli. Similarly, Laila wrote “softer than expected as a firm chew as a firm chew.” Daniel liked the texture less: “It is too superior to me.” While Kelli, Genevieve and Amanda praised his smoky and salty taste, Daniel and Laila thought the overall taste for simply “okay”.

Best jerk for hardcore beef lovers: Krave original sea salt beef jerky

Our editors have all found something that you loved about the original sea salt -beef -jerky. “Taste is great, so strong … clearly a little fat that delivers additional beef taste,” wrote Daniel, who also praised the “strong pieces” with a “real dried jerk -like bite”. Laila also enjoyed Jerky’s shredding, which made it easy to pull apart. Amanda enjoyed the balanced taste and Genevive estimated his “beef for -forward” notes.

Best jerk for Umami fans: Wegmans Beef Jerky

Wegman’s beef jerkily was another favorite. Laila enjoyed the taste of “mild pepper and soy sauce notes with a clear Umami presence”. Both Genevieve and Kelli found the texture satisfactorily. However, Amanda thought it had an unequal texture. If the texture is not as important to you as rich, hearty flavors, then this jerk is for you.

Important snack bars and conclusion

Each backpack we have tried is made from beef, sugar, salt and a mixture of spices. Some brands also include soy sauce, beef broth, Worcestershire -sauce, garlic powder, onion powder and celery powder, ingredients that have probably been added to give their products a more complex addition that may not provide salt for themselves. A brand uses Wagyu, a premium cattle breed that is famous for its kingdom. Many brands contain pineapple juice with bromelain, an enzyme in pineapple that can break down hard proteins and make it tender.

Our winner, Jack on the left of original beef -Jerky, contains only eight ingredients: beef, water, sugar, sea salt, yeast extract, flavors, cultivated celery extract and citric acid. In contrast to many of the brands we try, it does not contain any pineapple juice. It is probably the reason why our editors felt satisfactorily tough. It also does not contain a liquid smoke, an ingredient that can give an unpleasant artificial taste when overturning (although liquid smoke is made of real smoke and not artificially produced). Many brands probably use this ingredient to create the taste profile of beef, which was produced in an old-fashioned way: by air or sun drying and smoking.

Editors who have called sweet, delicate jerk -like ones too jerkily with pineapple juice. Many of these options, including two of our second-placed land shooters and Wegmans-Sind, soft and easy to chew. Those in our team who are themselves described back -like purists, including Daniel, approached brands without pineapple juice that occurred a happy medium: neither too wet and soft, nor too dry and firm.

Our test methodology

All taste tests are carried out with brands that are completely hidden and without discussion. Tasted tastes of samples in random order. For example, button A can taste a sample first, while buttons B tastes a sample first. This is intended to prevent the tiredness of the palate of a sample wrong. Tosters are asked to fill out tasting sheets and to evaluate the samples according to various criteria. All data are tabular and the results are calculated without editorial input to enable the most impartial presentation of the actual results.
