Apple sauce is essential in every kitchen. A spoon, hot or cold, tastes in a bowl after autumn. It is soft, sweet and soothing and makes illness much more bearable. I also like to cook with it: it is delicious in oatmealPresent SorbetsPresent Baked goodsas an accompaniment Latkes And PierogiesAnd of course just. Sure, you can make your own applesauceBut that requires spices, simmering and feeling pounds. Fortunately, apple sauce is easily available in many grocery stores. The question is: which brand is worth buying?
In order to find the best Appleuction, our editors have tried 14 different brands that you will probably find in your local grocery store. We decided unsweetened apple sauce Without additional sugar. We each placed in an undisturbed bowl and then tried them in a random order without knowing which one was. After we had wrapped ourselves through many, many apples, we tabulared the results and crowned an overall winner that we would like to eat with yogurt, ice cream or just eat. We also found an admirable second place.

The criteria
Ultimately, great apple sauce should be: Like homemade apple sauce, versions bought in the shop should taste like fresh apples that were cooked and broken down into a puree. It should be smooth and thick, not watery or excessively chunky. It should be gently cute, never tastes of boundaries and (obviously) not rancid, bitter or sour. Its color should be somewhere in the area of light yellow and red-brown, depending on the Apple variety used, and should never be green, purple or blue, which indicates spoilage or contamination. (It happens – I found one of them in my local business!)

Daniel. “Tastes like apple sauce!” wrote our senior editor, GeneviaveAnyone who thought that the texture was a bit mushy, but it liked that it wasn’t too sweet. Our Associate Visual Director, Amanda, I found it “okay”, but found the taste that is too sweet. Our senior social media editor, Kellifound the texture “decent” and also enjoyed the well -rounded flavors. Although I thought it was a bit watery, I enjoyed the pleasant apple taste compared to the rest.

“Good apple taste, but tastes a little oxidized,” wrote Daniel. Both Amanda and I enjoyed the pleasantly sweet apple taste and thought that the sauce was nicely pureed. In the meantime, Kelli found the texture a bit fibrous and grainy, but still enjoyed the “fine” taste. Genevieve felt similarly in order about the taste: “Don’t love, don’t hate.”

Important snack bars and conclusion
Most apple sauce are made with apples and water. Some brands contain ascorbic acid, a preservative that prevents oxidation and tanning and can give food a cake taste, while others have only one ingredient: apples. But ascorbic acid does not make apple sauce or does not break. Brands that were manufactured with it achieved both high and low in our tests. Our winner, Wegmans Organic Apfeli, consists of apples, water and ascorbic acid. In the meantime, our second place contains only organic apples.
Apple sauce is often sold in glasses, plastic cups and squeaky bags. We are curious whether the apple sauce sold in a bag would taste in a cup of apple sauce in a cup and carried out a side-by-side comparison from a brand. Overall, our editors preferred the bag and found that with a pleasant sweet and a smooth texture he made his well -rounded taste. In contrast to apple sauce that are sold in glasses or cups, the bags generally leave out water, which leads to a product with a concentrated taste.
Our test methodology
All taste tests are carried out with brands that are completely hidden and without discussion. Tasted tastes of samples in random order. For example, button A can taste a sample first, while buttons B tastes a sample first. This is intended to prevent the tiredness of the palate of a sample wrong. Tosters are asked to fill out tasting sheets and to evaluate the samples according to various criteria. All data are tabular and the results are calculated without editorial input to enable the most impartial presentation of the actual results.
