This strawberry bourbon cocktail has a secret ingredient that compensates for everything
Go past a farmers’ market in summer and you will almost certainly be lured to a point of view by the sweet smell of strawberries. It is this time of year when the small red jewels are all the way scarlet red and burst with taste.
Always looking for ways to bring seasonal finds to my cocktails, I started to tinker with some of my favorite earth berry flavor combinations. The result is this summer attitude of the classic whiskey. Strawberries are mixed up with lemon to create a juicy basis, and then a small strawberry syrup is added for a bit of sweetness and the autumn of the lemon is compensated. The balsamic vinegar acts as a bitter, and then of course a strong bourbon is added, because what is a blow without bourbon?
The result is a purple cocktail with taste that is as brave as the color. The strawberries and bourbon work together to create a rich and intense sweetness that is cut by lemon and balsamic vinegar. It is the type of cocktail that makes it make a double take, but it drinks with embarrassing ease.
