The FDA announces the recall of potentially radioactive shrimp

The US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall to several frozen shrimp products because a potential Caesium-137 (CS-137) -Ver contamination. Southwind Foods, LLC, published a recall for frozen shrimp products that are sold under five brand names that may be contaminated with CS-137, which is a radioactive isotope.

The recalled sack core were distributed to retailers and wholesalers between July 17 and August 8th and called back after the The FDA began to investigate reports on CS-137 contamination in shipping containers at several US ports. The shipping containers were processed by PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati (BMS Foods) from Indonesia and positive for CS-137 in Los Angeles, Houston, Savannah and Miami.

While the contaminated shrimp was refused to enter the country, the FDA warns customers that more shrimp are not safe to consume several shrimp products sold in Walmart.

The curved shrimp were sold in shops in nine states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia and Washington State.

What to do if you have the remembered frozen shrimp

If you have the frozen shrimp called back, you shouldn’t consume them. Instead, throw them away or return them to the original purchase location to receive a complete refund.

So far no diseases have been reported, but the main concern in consumption CS-137 contaminated food is long -term radiation. Even a low -dose exposure over time can lead to an increased risk of cancer or acute radiation syndrome.
