Best budget bread knife
This knife is shaped and colored to look like a baguette and stands out thanks to its cheek design, but also has other useful functions. Although the plastic handle has a slight weight, the blade cuts efficiently and can tackle the largest bread at 26 cm. The blade has a non-stick coating and a friction-reducing slot that helps him slide through the bread and even produce slices. The knife is also delivered with a blade cover, which makes it a good option for picnic.

Kai Shun Bread Knife, classic reach
Best blowout bread knife
The beautiful Damascus steel blade is made of 32 layers and is very hard. The knife is full of cones with a smooth Pakkawood handle (wood/resin network) in a classic Japanese D-shaped design. The jagged teeth show in different directions – at the front half you look forward as you stand backwards at the other end. This means the same cutting performance in every direction to cut noticeably efficiently. The wide spikes are very sharp and require little pressure for a smooth cut.

Best light bread knife
This bread knife is perfect for everyone who prefers a lighter knife, but do not have to sacrifice cutting capacity. The knife is long (10 inches), but rather thin and the bright orange handle is easy to grip even on wet hands. There is a curved end for additional comfort. We like the colored grip for something different than the black architect in our rehearsal. The bright color will cheer you up when you cut bread to the toast in the morning.
The Swiss blade is gently jagged with an unusual, rounded top, which looks less violent than some in the test, but not deceive: it cuts smoothly and effortlessly. This is delivered with a flexible cover that is transparent on one side to keep it safe in the cutlery drawer.

Best top bread knife
This full tang knife produced in Germany has a traditional appearance and seeps quality. It is long, quite heavy and very solid, with small, wavy patches that are regularly interspersed with sharper teeth. The knife, which has an ice blade made of stainless steel for durability and corrosion resistance, has a slight “wedge” shape and rejuvenates above.
A big advantage of this is in our sample that it can go into the dishwasher, even though hand washing is recommended. The performance of the cutting is good and slides slightly through our crispy white loaf. We find the shaped handle with its three rivets very comfortable and easy to grab. The lifelong guarantee is an additional bonus.

While many of the bread knives are long in the test (approx. 10 inches), this is designed for those who prefer a shorter bread knife that feels easier to control. At 20 cm (8 inches), the shorter length also makes it easier to store the cutlery drawer. There is also a protective safety sheath if it is not used to avoid accidental injuries.
The knife has regular patches and the blade consists of an iron Japanese stainless steel-das ice custody process is designed so that it remains sharper for longer. The soft handle is ergonomic and non -slip.
The instructions on the box state that this is also ideal for pastries and covering salad or cabbage, and we can guarantee it. It also cuts well through Cheddar – very practical when it produces a cheese sandwich because a knife does both jobs.

How to choose the best bread knife
Bread knife vary greatly in the price, which is when choosing a most important. They also differ in size: Shorter leaves may give you additional control, but longer can be easily dealt with with larger breads. If you are more of a roller fan than a spa lover, a short blade is also easier. And think of the weight: Do you prefer a light knife or one that feels firmer in your hand?
The ‘tang’ is the part of the metal blade, which becomes the handle of a knife. The strongest knives are full of tang, which means that the blade and the handle from the same metal are forged from the tip to the end and the handle is screwed on. Full Tang is a sign of the quality for general knives, but not a deal breaker when it comes to choosing a bread knife.
Some bread knives are part of a range, so that they can be aesthetically important if they prefer those who are all the same. If you have a knife block, ideally select a knife that fits properly in a slit.

How we test bread knives
We test bread knives from a series of brands. We put them through their steps on a very crispy homemade white loaf as well as hard rolls and homemade baguettes.
The most important thing is the effectiveness of the knife – we are looking for someone who cuts easily through the crust and the softer inner inside.
Comfort is also highly classified – we are looking for handles that simply hold and grab.
We are looking for monetary value – regardless of the price – and for additional functions. And because knives are often exhibited, we comment on the aesthetics of each individual.
