20 unmistakably southern recipes that feel like a warm hug
I am the type of person who plans all my trips for food experiences and usually turns “sights” about legendary restaurants, food halls, markets. You get the picture. The only place I have ever been to the south is New Orleans, and although I am a bit blurred to spend the details of the different trips myself – too many hurricane mats and bourbon cocktails – my sensory memory of the food remains crystal clear: creamy grits, smoky Kollardgrüns and a plethora of sweet, sweet desserts.
When I put together this collection of 20 iconic southern recipes, I had the feeling of moving on a road trip through the American south, putting in a large plate with ham from country ham and taking the red-eye sauce with as many fluffy Cathad biscuits as I could get in my hands. Although I admittedly a sissy, when it comes to spicy food, I liked to look at a hot chicken -sandwich in Nashville as long as I can dig the heat in a bowl with a cool banana pudding. Even if you cannot travel through the south, you can easily lead these recipes to a delicious sensory adventure.
